inside the head of a steelers fan

as you ought to know, the steelers played some monday night football last night, and even though the game was in pittsburgh, we were absolutely ready for it here in new jersey.

some of you realize what a crazy fan i am of this team, but many of you may not. so, during the game last night i just jotted down some of my thoughts so that you can see just how ridiculously into this i get. enjoy.

1. could it possibly rain any harder?

2. james harrison now has a sack and a forced fumble on the ravens first possession. all i heard about before the game was the incredible and inspired ravens defense, led by thug, um, i mean ray lewis and the heralded bart scott and trevor pryce. the latter was unable to bring down big ben who made him look silly before throwing a touchdown pass. this is sweet!

3. three and out on the ravens 2nd possession? McNair looks old. Big Ben looks alive and strong.
4. james harrison is really using his head - two forced fumbles...with his helmet!

5. is it just me or does it start pouring down rain everytime the steelers get the ball?

6. on the 2nd touchdown pass willie parker really showed me something. thug lewis was coming in hard on a blitz and fast willie just stopped the convict in his tracks, giving ben the extra second to thread the needle to santonio in the end zone. santonio is really starting to be money for the steelers.

7. if the 1st quarter felt like it lasted an hour to me, a steelers fan, how long must it have felt to the ravens?

8. james harrison just picked off mcnair. joey who?

9. stupid mcgahee. with that touchdown run you not only ruined the first half shutout, you also cost me my fantasy football game. dang you!

10. clark haggans' windmill flip in the third quarter was just some very visible evidence of coach tomlin's challenge to the team to be more violent than the ravens. and yet, with all that violence, the steelers have been penalized far less than the ravens. you see, in pittsburgh steeler football, violence means playing physical, no-surrender football. it means playing hard - harder than your opponent. it means imposing your will. it is still the steeler way.

11. the stadium sounded like a library when ben got hurt. so did my living room.

12. now ben is back in the game here in the fourth quarter, and i don't totally understand why except that it sends a message to the ravens and the whole league, really: we are tougher than you. on national tv, roethlisberger, harrison and the rest of these steel city footballers came out of the closet that they built themselves last year, with the ghosts of steelers past all around them, and made a loud and clear statement to the nfl. we're back.

greg,
what a game it was! it sure is fun to see them win like that against the ravens. i hate the ravens more than any other team, ever. precisely because of "thug lewis."

my parents were at the game. very jealous. i loved when the one announcer said that this was like a homecoming game - when you play a team that you can crush - and the ravens were doing everything they could to make it more joyful for the steelers.

i love franco so seeing him made the awesome victory just that much sweeter. my parents said that the bus go the biggest cheers of all the honored players.

megan, anytime there is a big moment in steelerdom, i always hear you say, "my parents were there..."

you can tell skip and nancy that i'm ready for them to call me anytime and invite me along.

bad haircuts (for a laugh)

everybody needs to laugh.  one good way i have found to make that happen is to do a simple google image search for 'bad haircut.'  when you do so, some of the following gems show up.  thankfully, my 9th grade school picture does NOT show up.  otherwise, it would certianly make this list!  please laugh freely and without inhibition.  thank you and have a nice day.

happiness is dry underwear

we started potty training jack on thursday. we followed a program called POTTY TRAIN IN ONE DAY, which, by the way, i think is kind of crazy. i mean, if someone were to offer you a book called, "ACHIEVE WORLD PEACE IN ONE DAY" i don't think you would take it seriously. and yet here we are, trying to accomplish an equally daunting task in one 24-hour period. it is intense. the day is shrouded in a lie because as soon as your happily diapered child wakes up you tell him that it is a big party. we had balloons and streamers and noisemakers and silly string - all the trappings of a legitimate party. but it is most certainly not a party. it is a hellishly exhausting day. as soon as jack got out of bed, we gave him a present: an anatomically correct doll that wets himself. jack named him quincy. several times quincy successfully peed in the potty and even had an accident or two in his "big boy underwear." he also dropped a deuce that looked and smelled sus...

i'm giving away the swamp

so this is a collage called swamp. i made it in february of last year. it is currently framed in a homemade, hand-painted frame. it is paper collage on a book binding panel. it is 7" x 10". and i am giving it away. i've been wanting to have a blog giveaway for some time, and the time has finally arrived. here's how it works. all you need to do is leave a comment on this post. by leaving a comment you are automatically entered into the contest (as long as your comment offers a way for me to get in touch with you, or you know that i know you). the contest will be open until next wednesday at noon, eastern standard time. at that time the contest will officially be closed and i will pick a random number. the person whose comment matches that number wins! for example, if i happen to pick the number 33, the thirty-third comment will win. oh, and one more rule: you can only post ONCE. if you win, i will send you the collage, signed by me, the artist, free of c...
