my monday sports high

for many americans, the drug of choice these days is caffeine. or nicotine. or some prescription that helps them make sense of everything and function on a day-to-day basis. i've got a drug, too. a couple of them, actually. and they both came through for me this weekend, which would explain why i am sailing through this monday with nary a worry.

ahh yes, one of my drugs is the new york yankees. they are making me sweat this year, and it looks like this will be the first time in a long time that they won't win the division. but it doesn't even matter to me right now because last night was an incredibly gratifying night for a yankee fan: jeter beat the schilling and the sox by rocking a 3-run homer over the stupid green monster. jeter is so clutch. and then mariano teased the sox in the bottom of the ninth, allowing the bases to get loaded with big papi at the plate, and got him to pop out. that was sweet. and i got the munchies.

but the first high of the day came when the steelers (in their super-sweet retro uniforms) destroyed the buffalo bills. now, i mentioned last week that i couldn't tell if the steelers were good or the browns were just really really bad. i almost have to say the same thing this week, but with a caveat: i can't keep saying this. at some point we have to just come out and say waht is obvious on the field: the steelers are pretty good and are making average teams look terrible. how they will fare against the good teams? we'll have to wait to find out. but, for now, let us revel in this victory.

2-0, and 2 1/2 games up in the wildcard,
greg.

Dude, glad to see your "steelers" doing so well this year, you may be right, too early to tell, but I can tell you that miami stinks to high heaven this year ( as usual) sigh...........

looks like that former steeler you picked up isn't going to take you to the next level (joey porter).

good luck with that.

Greg, looks like there was a lot of "poop" in Cleveland over the weekend. My Brownies put on a show on Sunday. They haven't put up 51 points since........ oh yeah 1989 51-0 against the Squeelers. All we needed to do was get rid of that loser QB and now we are back to business. Enjoy your wildcard race with the Yankees, I will be watching my Phillies as they try to catch the Mets.

completely un-sports high related,

dan - congrats to the brownies for beating the bungles. i was very happy to see that. now the steelers stand atop a division that suddenly looks a whole lot weaker. everyone is talking about how bad the bengals defense is to give up so many points, but what about you guys? how many points is that in two games? i look for the browns to go 6-10 or 5-11 this year.

i had no idea you were a phillies fan. you must really be enjoying the way they are beating the pants off the mets everytime they play. i say go phillies. i'm a bit of a met-hater, being a yankee fan and all.

hi emily,

i have not seen the simpson's movie. i don't see movies anymore because these two small humans in my house won't have it.

i got the new pic by going to some site called simpsonize me or something like that. it was a promo for the movie i think, put on by burger king. just google it and you'll find it. it is pretty cool.

Greg, I was born in Philly so I am naturally a Philly fan, but growing up in Erie pre NFL/MLB ticket on Directv, it was hard to follow the Phillies and Eagles so I had to choose teams closer to home. Being in Erie,I was surrounded by Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Nobody in their right mind is a Bills fan. All the Steeler fans I new were just a tad obnoxious celebrating their Super Bowl victories. So I went with the underdogs, "The Kardiac Kids", Chief Wahoo and the Indians. It has been a rough ride, many highs and lows. But that is what comes with being a Cleveland fan.

bad haircuts (for a laugh)

everybody needs to laugh.  one good way i have found to make that happen is to do a simple google image search for 'bad haircut.'  when you do so, some of the following gems show up.  thankfully, my 9th grade school picture does NOT show up.  otherwise, it would certianly make this list!  please laugh freely and without inhibition.  thank you and have a nice day.

happiness is dry underwear

we started potty training jack on thursday. we followed a program called POTTY TRAIN IN ONE DAY, which, by the way, i think is kind of crazy. i mean, if someone were to offer you a book called, "ACHIEVE WORLD PEACE IN ONE DAY" i don't think you would take it seriously. and yet here we are, trying to accomplish an equally daunting task in one 24-hour period. it is intense. the day is shrouded in a lie because as soon as your happily diapered child wakes up you tell him that it is a big party. we had balloons and streamers and noisemakers and silly string - all the trappings of a legitimate party. but it is most certainly not a party. it is a hellishly exhausting day. as soon as jack got out of bed, we gave him a present: an anatomically correct doll that wets himself. jack named him quincy. several times quincy successfully peed in the potty and even had an accident or two in his "big boy underwear." he also dropped a deuce that looked and smelled sus...

i'm giving away the swamp

so this is a collage called swamp. i made it in february of last year. it is currently framed in a homemade, hand-painted frame. it is paper collage on a book binding panel. it is 7" x 10". and i am giving it away. i've been wanting to have a blog giveaway for some time, and the time has finally arrived. here's how it works. all you need to do is leave a comment on this post. by leaving a comment you are automatically entered into the contest (as long as your comment offers a way for me to get in touch with you, or you know that i know you). the contest will be open until next wednesday at noon, eastern standard time. at that time the contest will officially be closed and i will pick a random number. the person whose comment matches that number wins! for example, if i happen to pick the number 33, the thirty-third comment will win. oh, and one more rule: you can only post ONCE. if you win, i will send you the collage, signed by me, the artist, free of c...
