no, this isn't my halloween costume. its napoleon. napoleon dynamite. (wait, your name is napoleon?). i finally saw this little campy creation. so i thought i would reflect on it for a moment.
weird. i mean, i get it. i get that he is sort of a gen-x/y shoegazing computer geek who reminds us of ourselves in some ways. i see my awkward adolescence in him. i see my moments of social ineptitude in him. but beyond that, what is this story telling us?
frankly, nothing. it is a loosely connected group of skits featuring the same characters throughout who deliver ridiculous lines of script in a deliciously deadpan manner. it's funny. it's just not all that meaningful.
not that everything has to be all that meaningful. it did make me laugh. just not as much as i thought it might.
and my biggest complaint: the ending. it just frizzled out. it reminded me of Monty Python's Holy Grail in this way, like they ran out of money or thought the film was getting too long.
so, i wasn't that impressed. anyone out there disagree? or agree? let's talk.
i did see another movie this weekend that i really enjoyed: it was called hoodwinked, and was a retelling of the little red riding hood story. it was clever and witty and quickly-paced. it made me laugh much more than napoleon. and it had something a little deeper to say about our preconceptions and prejudices. i would recommend this movie.so there's my movie recap of the weekend. i also watched disc 1 of lotr: the two towers and a really bad version of a football game. but you already know that.
greg.
ps. i don't normally watch this much tv/movies. i just feel the need to defend myself here. i was sick all day saturday, and spent the day in bed, with the tv on. so there.
everybody needs to laugh. one good way i have found to make that happen is to do a simple google image search for 'bad haircut.' when you do so, some of the following gems show up. thankfully, my 9th grade school picture does NOT show up. otherwise, it would certianly make this list! please laugh freely and without inhibition. thank you and have a nice day.

hoodwinked- never saw it.
football game-- rather unfortunate. was charlie batch sick or something? did bill forget about him? hmmmm
from one super chick
charlie batch isn't a tenth the quarterback that big ben is. big ben is a legitimate star in the nfl. just because he has a pass tipped doesn't mean you put in the subpar player. all that does is shakes ben's confidence even more than it already is. i think the problem is that ben is trying to do too much to make up for what is breaking down all around him. the receivers aren't getting open, the line is losing alot of battles, and the running game was horrendous. you put all of that on a quarterback's shoulders, and it doesn't look pretty. ben will be fine. its the rest of the team i'm concerned about. especially the offensive line.
i don't think i'll be watching napoleon again. we borrowed it from the library. i would rather read a book. in german.
what food are you offering me in your picture there? is it pie? i hope so because i love pie.
yum,
greg.
My dad had a subscription for the magazine The Economist....in German. Not a good read.
Peace,
Rachel
I would (and have) watch ND again a second time.
I am offering you a slice of toasted almond cake. It is a pic from my 30th birthday.
Ironically, Rachel is the one taking my picture. well hello Rachel.
