new york is my homeboy



this weekend some friends of ours ,matt and megan and their daughters, came to visit us, which was great. we took the day on saturday to head into new york city. we drove to weehawkin, took the ferry over to 39th street, and then the bus to times square, where we took the kids to toys-r-us. from there we grabbed lunch at a less-than-stellar deli, then took the subway up to central park, where we visited the central park zoo. we had a great day in the city, aided by some of the best weather you could possibly imagine.

as i've written here many times before, i love new york city. when i go there, even though i am often 'mr. intense,' because i'm trying to make sure everyone sticks together and gets where they need to go, etc., i am also very content. i love being there. i love the smells and sounds. i love the way the wind cuts through the streets. i love the way life bursts forth in every crack and crevice. i love the variety of people who call the place home. i love the width and the breadth of it. i love the whole thing; the whole city; the whole experience. i heart n.y.

Thanks for taking us to the city! The kids were most excited by the various forms of transportation they got to take - go figure! It was fun looking at all the pictures - our camera is still sitting in the car (bad) so I'm glad I got to see yours.

i still look up, craning my neck at all the skyscrapers, i still need to eat a hotdog, it still love the music of the accents of people walking by - after 30 years of being here. i will always heart nyc. great pix of the kids. julid

it did look like a blast!! can't wait to squeeze those little ones' cheeks the next time i see them. you got some really great shots there too. i am typing this message from my new house in my new study with my new internet connection. :) ha! i feel like such an adult.

bad haircuts (for a laugh)

everybody needs to laugh.  one good way i have found to make that happen is to do a simple google image search for 'bad haircut.'  when you do so, some of the following gems show up.  thankfully, my 9th grade school picture does NOT show up.  otherwise, it would certianly make this list!  please laugh freely and without inhibition.  thank you and have a nice day.

affirmed

i cannot express today the feeling i have. this picture that i found sort of expresses it but not really. for the last ten years i have poured myself into this vocation, daring to believe that God, the very God of all creation, has called me, even me, to this work. along the way many have affirmed me in this journey, but i have continued to work for the ultimate affirmation, ordination as an elder in the united methodist church. and now i have it. after two grueling (and i mean grueling in every possible sense, really) days i recieved the call today that the board voted to recommend me to the annual conference for ordination as an elder. and as i have already said, i cannot even begin to express the emotion i feel with words like relief, joy and satisfaction. there will be plenty of time for me to reflect on this and i will have more to say about it as i do that reflecting, but today is really a day for celebrating for me, and for thanking those who have journeyed with me and s...
