the artist takes a new step

"the action of and"

it has been somewhat of a long journey, but i have finally gotten comfortable with the idea of thinking of myself as an artist. for so long that seemed so pretentious, and while i don't want to lose that sense of humility, i have also learned to accept that it is ok to think of myself as an artist. that was hard enough. and now i have taken a new step.

we read an article in our local paper recently about a local art gallery that is online only and features artists from our area. under shannon's encouragement, i called the people who run the gallery, not really thinking that it would go anywhere. they asked to see some of my work, which i sent to them. nothing really happened for awhile, but a couple of weeks ago i heard back from them that they were interested in including my work in their gallery. while this may not seem like a very big deal to many of you, it is an important step on this journey for me.

and so i am excited to share with you that you can view 18 of my collages at art locals only. once you get there just click on 'artist page' and then scroll to the bottom and click on my name. the weirdest part of all is that they are for sale at this gallery, so i had to put a price on them! i have no idea how to judge the value or worth of a piece of art that i've created, so that was an interesting experience. still, i am excited about this new leg of my journey as an artist. i hope you'll take the time to visit the site and tell me what you think.

peace,
greg

Greg this is really cool. I think I remember telling you YEARS ago that people would buy your art - glad you had the encouragement to pursue it!
Is it hard to think of parting with your creations? I know you give them away but this is different...
If you become famous I promise not to see the two that I have on ebay!

excellent!

way to step out of your box and embrace your creative gift. that is a huge step, putting your art "out there" for all to see (and buy!).

megan- you crack me up! I just read your comment about selling his art on ebay. too funny! I would never do that... too sentimental.

anyway, I can't wait to stop by and see your art... for now, my bed is calling me to come in and sleep!

Hi Greg! I've been meaning to post a comment on your blog for awhile now, and love the way you write. You're not only a talented artist but a talented writer! Love your home at Christmastime too!!

Greg, congratulations, that is so cool.

Often I think that being an artist is a state of mind, rather than a social status or title. Maybe it's not about thinking or creating a certain way, but just thinking or creating? So then what I think is the toughest part is putting that idea, or creation, out there for other people to see. For other people to criticize, or appreciate, to buy or to ignore... to put our thoughts, creations, and passions for others to see and be left so vulnerable.

Anyway, you can tell it's getting late because I ramble and philosophize. Congratulations, and thank you for taking that step and presenting your art for everyone to see.

peace,

Eric

totally meant to say "sell" rather than "see" - but i wouldn't see them on ebay if i wasn't selling them so it all works out eventually!

bad haircuts (for a laugh)

everybody needs to laugh.  one good way i have found to make that happen is to do a simple google image search for 'bad haircut.'  when you do so, some of the following gems show up.  thankfully, my 9th grade school picture does NOT show up.  otherwise, it would certianly make this list!  please laugh freely and without inhibition.  thank you and have a nice day.

happiness is dry underwear

we started potty training jack on thursday. we followed a program called POTTY TRAIN IN ONE DAY, which, by the way, i think is kind of crazy. i mean, if someone were to offer you a book called, "ACHIEVE WORLD PEACE IN ONE DAY" i don't think you would take it seriously. and yet here we are, trying to accomplish an equally daunting task in one 24-hour period. it is intense. the day is shrouded in a lie because as soon as your happily diapered child wakes up you tell him that it is a big party. we had balloons and streamers and noisemakers and silly string - all the trappings of a legitimate party. but it is most certainly not a party. it is a hellishly exhausting day. as soon as jack got out of bed, we gave him a present: an anatomically correct doll that wets himself. jack named him quincy. several times quincy successfully peed in the potty and even had an accident or two in his "big boy underwear." he also dropped a deuce that looked and smelled sus

the crucifixion of Robert Lewis

"the crucifixion of Robert Lewis" mixed media collage with leaves, acrylic paint, and found objects by gregory a milinovich october 2023 this october i was invited to participate in a three day trip which was called a "pilgrimage of pain and hope."  while that may not sound super exciting to many of you, it actually really intrigued me.  i am the kind of person that wants to feel big feelings, and i am drawn to the deep places, so  i was interested in traveling to the scranton area, where the trip was planned, to see what it might look like to be a pilgrim that was wide-eyed and listening to the pain and the hope in the stories of others.   this trip included hearing the stories of immigrants to the northeastern pennsylvania area, and the work in the coal mines that many of them did.  it included hearing from folks who are working for housing justice and equity in downtown scranton.  it included hearing from those indigenous people who first inhabited that land.
