sno-cone

last wednesday it was in the mid-70's here in hunterdon county in new jersey. a beautiful foretaste of spring divine. we took jack to the playground and ate lunch outside. but then came friday. and friday brought with it a sleet-storm. i don't call it a snow storm because we really didn't get much, if any, snow. we got sleet. all day. non-stop. falling like a heavy rain, only it was just little peices of ice. once it was said and done, we had several inches of piled ice peices. like a giant unflavored sno-cone covering everything. yum.

our front yard on saturday morning

meanwhile, during the day on friday, my sister Julie and her husband Seth were trying to fly from pittsburgh to atlanta for a fun weekend with friends. they had a layover in newark, nj. they arrived in newark around noon on friday, but only had about 15 minutes to get across the airport for their connecting flight. unfortunately, seth had lost his boarding pass. so they had to go print out a new one. and go through security again. when they finally got to their gate, they let them on the place, but had already re-sold their seats, and so they had to get off of the plane and wait for the next plane. finally they boarded the next plane for atlanta, and were on the tarmac, ready to taxi for takeoff, but, due to the giant sno-cone, they sat there for about an hour and a half before the pilot came on the speakers and mumbled something about being really sorry and back to the gate. so they had to get off the plane. again. after all the airport red-tape and such, they finally discovered that there would be no more flights to atlanta or pittsburgh for a long time. so i drove out into the flavorless mess to pick them up and bring them to our house. its normally a 40 or 45 minute drive but it took several hours.

i was able to get them and bring them back to our house where they spent the night. did i mention that their luggage was already in sunny atlanta? oops. their luggage was already in sunny atlanta. so they borrowed some stuff from us. in this picture seth is wearing my underwear and my socks. which would be fine except for that rash...

anyway, it was a fun weekend filled with unexpected visits, both from frozen treats falling from the sky, and family who were unable to make it into the sky.

This weather is so crazy - supposed to be close to 70 again this weekend but we'll probably still have snow on the ground. Pretty fun that you were able to have visitors in the midst of it.

Do you have Rita's up near you? Tomorrow is free Rita's day - first day of spring and of course it's supposed to be in the 40's...

bad haircuts (for a laugh)

everybody needs to laugh.  one good way i have found to make that happen is to do a simple google image search for 'bad haircut.'  when you do so, some of the following gems show up.  thankfully, my 9th grade school picture does NOT show up.  otherwise, it would certianly make this list!  please laugh freely and without inhibition.  thank you and have a nice day.

happiness is dry underwear

we started potty training jack on thursday. we followed a program called POTTY TRAIN IN ONE DAY, which, by the way, i think is kind of crazy. i mean, if someone were to offer you a book called, "ACHIEVE WORLD PEACE IN ONE DAY" i don't think you would take it seriously. and yet here we are, trying to accomplish an equally daunting task in one 24-hour period. it is intense. the day is shrouded in a lie because as soon as your happily diapered child wakes up you tell him that it is a big party. we had balloons and streamers and noisemakers and silly string - all the trappings of a legitimate party. but it is most certainly not a party. it is a hellishly exhausting day. as soon as jack got out of bed, we gave him a present: an anatomically correct doll that wets himself. jack named him quincy. several times quincy successfully peed in the potty and even had an accident or two in his "big boy underwear." he also dropped a deuce that looked and smelled sus

the crucifixion of Robert Lewis

"the crucifixion of Robert Lewis" mixed media collage with leaves, acrylic paint, and found objects by gregory a milinovich october 2023 this october i was invited to participate in a three day trip which was called a "pilgrimage of pain and hope."  while that may not sound super exciting to many of you, it actually really intrigued me.  i am the kind of person that wants to feel big feelings, and i am drawn to the deep places, so  i was interested in traveling to the scranton area, where the trip was planned, to see what it might look like to be a pilgrim that was wide-eyed and listening to the pain and the hope in the stories of others.   this trip included hearing the stories of immigrants to the northeastern pennsylvania area, and the work in the coal mines that many of them did.  it included hearing from folks who are working for housing justice and equity in downtown scranton.  it included hearing from those indigenous people who first inhabited that land.
